Ball Valves

A ball valve contains of a spherical disc. It is this disc that helps in controlling the flow. The body may be made up of metal, plastic, or metal with a ceramic center. There are different types of ball valves like single body, three piece body, spilt body, top entry and welded. Some balls may be manually operated whereas others may have an actuator which can be controlled through a machine or a motor.

The cons of manually operated ball valve are that it may cause hammering of water whereas machine operated ball valves allows you to start or stop the ball flow. They are used in industrial applications because of their versatility and their ability to support high pressure and high temperature i.e. 1000 bars and 482 degree Fahrenheit respectively. A ball valve has a hole or a port at the middle which allows the flow when aligned with the line with both ends of the valve.
